Domaine G. ROUMIER (Chambolle-Musigny) -- 2015 Tasted from Bottle

(Originally published 9 August 2018.)

My description of 2015 vintage conditions at Roumier and notes on tasting these and other wines from barrel are here.

2015 Chambolle-Musigny
The price one sees on store shelves for Roumier’s village Chambolle has become ridiculous — more than many grands crus from decent producers. At the same time, one has to say that the quality that Christophe gets from these vines is truly remarkable. The wine is pure with a smooth texture, red fruits, and the weight is medium-light. Yet there is a remarkable structure that will support long aging. 93/A+

2015 Morey-Saint-Denis    1er Cru    Clos de la Bussière
Her the fruits are darker than in the Chambolle. The wine is long and round with elegance and seductiveness. All the same, there are (excellent) tannins that will support aging. Since Christophe changed the work in the vineyards and cellar in 2002, this wine has gained greatly in quality and is probably the most under-appreciated wine in his line up. 93/A

2015 Bonnes-Mares
As one would expect, the Bonnes-Mares is more closed. This wine is deep and tannic, yet the finesse that comes with long aging is already beginning to peak through. For those lucky to open a bottle of this wine in 15-20+ years, it will be a magnificent experience. 96(+)/A
