BOUCHARD Père & Fils (Beaune) -- 2018 Part II: Côte de Nuits Reds Tasted from Barrel Samples

My introduction to the vintage at Bouchard P&F is here.

2018 Gevrey-Chambertin
Dark fruits in nose and mouth, round, calm, medium-weight. Some power here, good balance. Satisfying and easy to drink. 30% whole clusters, 25% new oak. Bouchard controls everything in the vineyards even though it doesn’t own them; about 10.5 ha., 40 different plots. Same supplier as for Chambolle. (89-90)

2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges   1er Cru  Les Cailles
Rich, round, enveloping, intense, deep, intense dark fruits. Tremendous potential, but needs much more barrel aging. Tannins present. Lots of complexity. Hailed, but berries dried and fell off. Destemmed all in this vintage, usually have 50% whole clusters (all from a particular part of the vineyard). Domaine wine. (92-93)

2018 Clos Vougeot
Elegance, purity, definition, black and red raspberry fruit. Light on palate. Location (Plan de l’Abbaye) gives more elegant Clos-Vougeot. Domaine wine from property purchased from Drouhin-Larose. (93-95)

2018 Echézeaux
Smooth, sensual, elegant, dark fruits, some spicy. Sensual texture. Light, elegant, good intensity. Domaine wine from the La Combe d’Orveaux lieu-dit. (93-95)

2018 Chapelle-Chambertin
Pure, tightly-wound, dark fruit, crushed cassis, good energy and tension. (93-94)

2018 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Intense, musky Clos de Bèze nose with a bit of spice. Pure, dark fruits, power, freshness, depth. This will take a long time to maturity. (94-95)
