This set of wines, kicking off the Rheingau presentation, demonstrates the excellent quality of the Rheingau vintage.

Joachim FLICK

2017 (Hochheim) Königen Victoriaberg Riesling GG
Floral nose. Excellent biting minerality, depth, energy, finesse. A major step up from previous efforts I’ve seen in this vineyard; Joachim Flick’s work in the vines must be paying off 93/A

2017 (Wicker) Nonnberg “Vier Morgen” Riesling GG
Elegant, penetrating, pure with spicy dark plum fruit. The wine has depth and finesse and is perfectly balanced. 93+/A

KÜNSTLER

2017 (Hochheim) Hölle Riesling GG
Good finesse, minerality, length, depth, power, concentration, some spice. Needs time, but nice overall balance. 93+/A

2017 (Hochheim) Kirchenstück Riesling GG
Floral, perfumed nose. Finesse, nice acidity, length, depth, minerality. Excellent Kirchenstück. 93/A

Domdecant WERNER’sches Weingut

2017 (Hochheim) Domdechenay Riesling GG
More structure than Kirchenstück, as is typical; some spice, good intensity. Needs time but will be good. 93/A

2017 (Hochheim) Kirchenstück Riesling GG
Mineral aromas. Finesse, decent concentration. Lacks some definition for now, but Werner wines are slow developers. 91+/A-
