This excellent group of wines includes a fascinating duel between the Haag brothers at Fritz Haag and Schloss Lieser.



Fritz HAAG

2017 (Brauneberg) Juffer Riesling GG
Leesy nose. Hint of creaminess in texture, pure, steely, energetic, more tension than usual. Fermented 1/3 in old wood, 2/3 in stainless. 93/A

2017 (Brauneberg) Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling GG
Deeper, more tension and depth; rockiness and earthiness to minerality, crisp. Very energetic. Lime and stones, blue slate fruit. 94/A



Schloss LIESER — Thomas HAAG

2017 (Brauneberg) Juffer Riesling GG
Leesy nose. Pure, crisp, more structured than F. Haag, more strict and steely. 93/A

2017 (Brauneberg) Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling GG
Nervy, penetrating, tightly-wound, energetic. 94/A

2017 (Lieser) Niederberg Helden Riesling GG
Still fermentation/lees aromas. Pure, steely, deep, light, ethereal, crisp, energetic, electric, slate fruit. 94/A




Dr. LOOSEN

2017 (Bernkastel) Johannisbrünchen Riesling GG
Very high acidity (although seemingly not too high), nervy, medium-light, lime/slate. But still quite tight. 91(+?)/A-




S. A. PRÜM

2016 (Bernkastel) Lay
Slight butter in nose. Medium weight, some acidity, some nervosity, Needs more time. 90(+)/B+




Geheimrat J. WEGELER

2017 (Bernkastel) Doctor Riesling GG
Lemony slate nose and mouth, medium-light, good acidity. 91+/A-
