(Please see my overview of the 2018 vintage here.)
Vincent Guillemot characterized the yields here as normal. Harvesting began on 1 September. Alcohols were about 13º. Malo-lactic fermentations were rapid, finishing in about a month.
2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
This wine is light with finesse and a smooth texture, iron, almost a banana element in its red fruits. (85-87)
2018 Savigny-les-Beaune vieilles vignes
This Savigny is smooth and elegant with red fruits, moderate acidity, good length, red fruits and also some black currants. (88-90)
2018 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Grands Picotins
The Grands Picotins has cassis and some tropical fruit, good density, finesse, length, and precision. (88-91)
2018 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Narbantons
Guillemot’s Savigny-Narbantons has a smooth, creamy texture and more weight than the Grands Picotins. The wine is elegant, long, round, and calm in the mouth. (89-91)
2018 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Jarrons
The Savigny-Jarrons is round with some structure to its red fruits and good length. The wine is light on the tongue. (89-91)
2018 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières
Denser than the Jarrons, the Savigny-Serpentières has dark fruits, spiciness, a smooth texture, and lightness on the tongue. (89-91)
2018 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Gravains
The vines for the Savigny-Gravains were only planted in 2007, but Guillemot goes out of its way to keep the yields low. The wine has soy and salinity with density, but lightness on the palate. (90-92)
2018 Corton-Rognet
The Corton-Rognet is deeper and denser than any of the foregoing wines, as one would expect, with salinity and dark and red fruits. The wine shows elegance for Corton, no doubt because of the vintage and the way that Guillemot’s fermentations have evolved over the years. 13.5º alcohol. (91-93)
2018 Savigny-les-Beaune blanc
Bottled in August, a couple of months before I tasted it, this wine did not live up to my expectations. In particular, the acidity is low giving a flat impression in the mouth, and I found a hint of caramel in the wine. Nevertheless, the wine has good intensity and enough structure. 70% Pinot Gouges (i.e., a strain of Pinot Blanc), and 30% Chardonnay. 86/C
