Comte Georges de VOGÜÉ (Chambolle-Musigny) -- 2016 Tasted from Bottle

My report on tasting the 2016s from barrel is here. To recap, the estate lost 2/3 of its production. Picking began on 24 September, by which time there was equal ripeness for both the primary and secondary bunches, and so both went into the wines. Technical director François Millet thinks the second crop may have given extra energy to the wines.

2016 Chambolle-Musigny
From vineyards that were almost entirely affected by the frost, this wine has a smooth texture with pure, fresh red fruits. It is calmer and more restrained than the 2017, and the minerality here gives good energy to the wine. 92/A

2016 Chambolle-Musigny    1er Cru
As always, this wine is declassified Musigny, from vines less than 25 years of age. The wine is open in the nose and mouth. It features spiciness (white pepper) with red fruits, structure and length. It does not have the opulence of the 2017 because of its acidity. 94/A

2016 Bonnes-Mares
The Bonnes-Mares has spicy red fruits, excellent concentration, mineral and floral overtones, and good structure that is imposed by the acidity. 96/A

2016 Musigny   vieilles vignes
Last, the Musigny has a typical velvet texture with concentration, structure imposed by the acidity, and minerality. It’s still quite closed and will take a long time to maturity, but has the potential to be a great wine.  96+/A
