Maison MARCHAND-TAWSE (Nuits-St-Georges) -- 2016 Part I: Côte de Nuits Regional, Village, and Premier Cru Tasted from Barrel

This negociant operation founded by Pascal Marchand and Moray Tawse, has put together an excellent selection of Côte de Nuits wines.

2016 Bourgogne   Pinot Noir   47N
This excellent Borugogne contains a little Marsannay, some grapes from Château de Prémeaux, a little Vosne-Romanée, and a little Beaune-Clos du Roi. The nose shows spicy red fruits. The mouth is light and pure with strawberry fruit and good acidity, as well as nice raciness, freshness, and precision. (88-91)

2016 Vosne-Romanée   Combe Brulée
The Combe Brulée has dark berry fruit, good acidity, lightness on the palate, some smokiness, and good length. (90-94)

2016 Vosne-Romanée   Champs Perdrix
Champs Perdrix is located just uphill from La Tâche, but even taking location into account, the quality here is outstanding. The nose and mouth show pure red cherry fruit with a bit of spice. The wine is long with a silky texture and good freshness. 30% whole clusters in this wine. (90-93)

2016 Morey-Saint-Denis    En Rue de Vergy
The En Rue de Vergy features ripe red currant fruit. The wine is medium-weight and shows more structure than the Champs Perdrix. 60% whole clusters here. (87-90)

2016 Chambolle-Musigny
The Chambolle has dark berry fruit and is sensuous and deep with nice acidity and great freshness. The grapes here were entirely destemmed. (90-93)

2016 Morey-Saint-Denis   1er Cru  Clos des Ormes
This wine has dark and red fruits, medium acidity, finesse, but also some structure. The tannins are ripe and there is freshness here. 50% new oak, 25% whole clusters. (88-92)

2016 Morey-Saint-Denis    1er Cru   Les Millandes
The Millandes features red fruits that are dense, deep, long, and fresh and the wine shows power, but also finesse. No whole clusters in this wine. (90-94)

2016 Morey-Saint-Denis   1er Cru   Les Faconnières
This wine has mineral aromas. The mouth features fesh dark fruits with depth, energy, length, and minerality, plus a smooth texture. The wine was vinified by the vigneron who raised the grapes, Marchand-Tawse supplied the barrel. 60% whole clusters. (91-94)

2016 Vosne-Romanée    Les Suchots
The Suchots has red currant and strawberry fruit with sharp, enlivening acidity and good freshness. All whole clusters. (91-95)

2016 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru   Les Petits Monts
The Petits Monts shows knife-edge acidity with red fruits, minerality, and good energy. Only one barrel produced. (90-94)
