This is the least well-known sector of the Pfalz, but not to be overlooked, nonetheless.




MEßMER

2017 (Burrweiler) Schäwer Riesling GG
Almond blossom, yellow peach. Round in mouth, medium-weight, intense, bitter almond, yellow peach. Different from Minges’s version of Schäwer. 91/A-




Theo MINGES

Like Groebe in the Rheinhessen, a highly underrated producer. Don’t miss these wines, should you come across them. 

2017 (Gleisweiler) Höhle - Unter Faulenberg Riesling GG
Floral, mineral/peach nose. Mouth of lime, incipient white and yellow peach, very dense, excellent concentration and length. 93(+)/A

2017 (Burrweiler) Schäwer Riesling GG
Pear and peach nose. Intense, mineral, penetrating, and nervy in mouth with white nectarine fruit. 93/A

2017 (Godramstein) Münzberg “Schlangenpfiff" Riesling GG
Spicy, mineral nose. Intense, steely, penetrating, energetic, incipient peach and apricot. 93/A




KRANZ

2017 (Ilbesheim) Kalmit Riesling GG
Closed mineral nose. Medium-weight, light on palate, smooth, round, pure. 91(+)/A-




Ökonomierat REBHOLZ

As always, Rebholz has some of the top dry Rieslings of the vintage.

Crisp, mineral nose. More breadth to body, elegant, intense, citric, long. 94/A

Crisp, pure, mineral nose. Medium-light in mouth, mineral, salty, chili pepper, intense, pure, long. 94/A

2017 (Birkweiler) Kastanienbusch Riesling GG
Mineral, floral nose. Light, elegant, mineral mouth. Airier than other two Rebholz Rieslings. 93/A

2017 (Leinsweiler) Sonnenberg Riesling GG
Chlorine?! nose. Savory lime, intense, medium-weight. Long. 90/B+?




Dr. WEHRHEIM

2017 (Birkweiler) Kastanienbusch Riesling GG
Lemon, mineral nose. Lemony mineral mouth, dense, long, concentrated, chewy. 93/A
