Frédéric Mugnier said that harvest began on 25 September. Crop size was about half normal. There was no triage and no chaptalization, and all grapes were destemmed. Some alcoholic fermentations finished in barrel, which is unusual. Malolactic fermentations were rather light, mostly finishing in the spring.
2016 Chambolle-Musigny
Here, the harvest produced six barrels of wine (about 1800 bottles); a normal vintage is twenty-five barrels. What little there is meets the usual oustanding standards for this wine chez Mugnier. The nose is mineral with raspberry aromas. The raspberries continue in the mouth and they are ripe and the flavors long. This is a relatively powerful wine for Chambolle. (89-92)
2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées
The Fuées has the slight animal aromas that I find typical of the vineyard. The mouth shows raspberry fruit and a little dark fruit. There’s greater freshness here than in the village wine, nice clarity, airiness, and length. (91-94)
2016 Bonnes-Mares
The nose of the Bonnes-Mares is floral and perfumed. The mouth is darker in its fruit with more power and density than in the Fuées, and there is very good length. Losses here due to the frost were severe. (91-95)
2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses
The Amoureuses features a stony nose. The mouth shows red currants and cherries with good liveliness. This is a good example of how Amoureuses should taste. (92-95)
2016 Musigny
As with the Amoureuses, the Musigny is an excellent example of its terroir. The nose is floral. The mouth displays dark berry fruit, great freshness, penetration, depth, and concentration. The velvet texture of Musigny is present, too. As readers may know, the Musigny will not be released by the estate for a number of years. (94-98)
2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale
The monopole Clos de la Maréchale has spicy aromas. The mouth is crisp and lively with red fruit, especially red currants. The wine has great freshness and outstanding length. (92-95)
2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale blanc
The white Clos de la Maréchale is viscous and intense, and spicy with tropical fruits and good freshness. (90-93)
