One can wonder if dry wines are the best use of these magnificent vineyards, but one can’t argue with the quality shown by these wines.
Schloss LIESER — Thomas HAAG
2017 (Graach) Himmelreich GG
Less ripe than Loosen version. Slatey, needs time, less sugar here, a new-style wine with its extreme dryness. Good energy. 92/A
Dr. LOOSEN
2017 (Erden) Treppchen Riesling GG
Round, somewhat closed, but slate showing with lemon. 91/A-
2014 (Erden) Prälat Riesling GG
Floral, slate nose. The mouth shows breadth, yellow peach, intense, long, concentrated. This is an outstanding expression of the great Prälat terroir. Loosen’s long aging here is instructive. 93(+)/A
2017 (Graach) Domprobst Riesling GG
Creaminess, medium-light, yellow fruit. Acidity present, but it is not prominent. 92/A
2017 (Graach) Himmelreich Riesling GG
Pineapple and other tropical fruit in the nose. Medium-light body, long, lemony fruit, some juiciness. Good length. 92/A
2017 (Ürzig) Würzgarten Riesling GG
Round, some rose, not much spice, and I usually find a little more energy here. 90(+?)
2017 (Wehlen) Sonnenuhr Riesling GG
Spicy nose — one would almost think this the Würzgarten mislabelled. The mouth is dense, intense, slate and yellow. Good acidity. 92(+)/A
S. A. PRÜM
2017 (Wehlen) Sonnenuhr Riesling GG
Floral slate nose. Mouth of green plums, medium weight, firm acidic backbone. I haven’t seen the wines from this estate for some years, and it looks like there may be some improvements happening. 92/A
Geheimrat J. WEGELER
2017 (Wehlen) Sonnenuhr Riesling GG
Finesse, slate, slight nervosity, yellow fruit, good length. 92/A
