Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Grosses Gewächs Riesling: 2017 Part I: Heymann-Löwenstein and Knebel

One of my favorite producers, Clemens Busch, did not show any wines at the GG preview this year. I’m guessing that he, like many other producers, is holding his wines back a year and will show the 2017s next year.




HEYMANN-LÖWENSTEIN

2017 (Hetzenport) Kirchberg Riesling GG
A bit of honey but also slate in nose. Light in weight, slate, some yellow fruit.Very elegant. Can drink with pleasure already. 92+/A

2017 (Hetzenport) Stolzenberg Riesling GG
Medium-weight, less forward than Kirchberg, basically shut down for now. ?

2017 (Winningen) Uhlen “Blaufüßer Lay” Riesling GG
 Slate, yellow fruits, medium weight, some density, good length. 91+/A-

2017 (Winningen) Uhlen Laubach Riesling GG
Floral nose, yellow fruits, intense, good acidity. 91+/A-

2017 (Winningen) Röttgen Riesling GG
Slate, yellow fruit nose. Medium-weight, penetrating but not yet come together in mouth.90+/B+




KNEBEL

2017 (Winningen) Röttgen Riesling GG
Medium-light, strict and tight, but promise. 91+/A-

2017 (Winningen) Uhlen Riesling GG
Lime, slate nose. Medium weight, layered, salty. 92(+)/A
