Maison MARCHAND-TAWSE (Nuits-Saint-Georges) -- 2016 Part III: Whites Tasted from Tank

(Originally published December 2017)

Marchand-Tawse is known best for its red wines, which are produced in much greater number than the whites. But the wines below demonstrate that the whites are also worthy of attention, and the amply demonstrate the favorable aspects of the vintage’s whites.

2016 Bourgogne    Chardonnay
This wine supplies excellent white Burgundy quality at what should be a moderate price. The nose and mouth show hazelnuts. The wine is medium-rich but also shows good acidity and freshness. (87-90)

2016 Rully
Here, too, there is white Burgundy of quality at what should be an attractive price. The wine has floral aromas. The mouth is medium-light with minerality and purity. (88-91)

2016 Meursault
Meursault buttery and lime aromas and flavors are in a medium-light body with smoothness and crispness make for an attractive wine. (88-92)

2016 Puligny-Montrachet
This village Puligny is mineral, pure, and penetrating, but less expressive, at least at this time, than the Meursault. (88-91)

2016 Meursault   1er Cru   Les Genevrières

As one would hope, there is a significant jump in quality to the Meursault-Genevrières. The wine shows typical Genevrières beeswax flavors and it is long and pure with notable finesse. (91-95)
