Louis JADOT (Beaune) -- 2017 Part III: Côte de Nuits Village and Premier Cru Wines

Harvesting in 2017 took place at Jadot between 2 and 28(!) September.

2017  Côte de Nuits-Villages    Le Vaucrain   (Domaine Louis Jadot)
Here’s a wine that is sure to be an excellent value. Showing violets in the nose and mouth, the wine is medium-weight with power and depth to go with dark fruits. There is no rusticity here. Le Vaucrain is a parcel immediately south of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru, Clos de la Maréchale. (90-92)

2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges    1er Cru    Les Boudots    (Domaine Gagey)
The Nuits-Boudots has the smooth, velvet texture typical of the vineyard’s wines. The wine is dense, deep, and pure with dark fruits. In the past, there has also been a négociant bottling of Boudots, but I’m not sure that continues to this day. (92-94)

2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges    1er Cru   Les Vaucrains
This wine is from a purchase of wine in barrel. It is mineral and stony with a bit of licorice and excellent energy and length. Classic Vaucrains. (93-95)

2017 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru   Les Suchots
Another wine that Jadot buys in barrel, the Vosne-Suchots shows good depth, energy, and tension to go with dark, truffly Suchots fruits. (92-94)

2017 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru   Les Beaux Monts
Here, again, the wine is purchased in barrel. and as with the Suchots, the quality has been consistent across the years. The minerality and violets of Beaux Monts shows through easily and the wine is sensual, but firm, on the palate. (93-95)

2017 Chambolle-Musigny    1er Cru   Les Fuées   (Domaine Louis Jadot)
Jadot’s Chambolle-Fuées has dark fruit that is dense and pure and rolls of the tongue with sensuality. But there’s structure here, too, to support some aging. (92-94)

2017 Chambolle-Musigny    1er Cru   Les Baudes   (Domaine Gagey)
The Chambolle-Baudes has spicy (mustard seed) red fruits with good concentration. The wine is medium-weight and has firmness. There will also be a négociant bottling of this wine. (92-94)

2017 Chambolle-Musigny    1er Cru   Les Feusselottes   (Domaine Louis Jadot)
The Chambolle-Feusselottes is pure with finesse, lightness, and penetration. The wine has good energy, dark fruits, and a smooth texture. (93-95)

2017 Gevrey-Chambertin    Estournelles Saint-Jacques  (Domaine Louis Jadot)
This wine is steely, concentrated, penetrating, and energetic. I would have been still more enthusiastic but for a touch of graininess to the texture. (91-93)

2017 Gevrey-Chambertin   1er Cru   Clos Saint-Jacques   (Domaine Louis Jadot)
The Gevrey-Clos Saint-Jacques appropriately finishes off as the king of the premiers crus. The gaminess typical of the vineyard is present in the nose and mouth, and the wine is intense and powerful with medium weight. (93-96)
