The reds, in general, have about 30% new oak barrels in 2017. As always for almost all Jadot wines, no whole clusters in these wines.
2017 Santenay Clos des Gatsulards (Domaine Gagey)
This wine has a strong, pure, focused cassis nose. The focused cassis fruit continues in the mouth along with purity. This medium-weight wine is still fresh and primary and has a smooth texture. It should be a very good value. (89-91)
2017 Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière (Domaine Prieur-Brunet)
This another new addition to the Jadot line-up via the Prieur-Brunet estate purchase. The nose is stonier and less fruity than that of the Clos des Gatsulards. The mouth shows crushed cassis and energy in a medium-weight body. (89-91)
2017 Chorey-les-Beaune Beaumonts (Domaine Gagey)
This pleasurable wine has a smooth texture, finesse, and dark fruits. (87-89)
2017 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode (Domaine Louis Jadot)
The Savigny-Dominode has smoky, mineral cassis aromas. The mouth is pure and penetrating with cassis fruit and good energy. (89-91)
2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi (Domaine Louis Jadot)
This medium-weight wine is energetic with crushed dark fruit aromas and flavors. (89-91)
2017 Beaune 1er Cru Cras (Domaine Gagey)
The Beaune-Cras has intense crushed dark berry fruit with freshness, purity, and very good tension. (90-92)
2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux (Domaine des Héritiers Louis Latour)
Jadot's Beaune-Clos des Couchereaux features crushed blackberies with good intensity, concentration, and energy, but it is a bit lighter in weight than the previous wine. (90-92)
2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules (Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot)
One of Jadot’s flagship wines, the Beaune-Clos des Ursules certainly lives up to expectations in 2017. The wine has spicy dark fruits in the nose and mouth, and is intense and pure with finesse, depth, and precision. (93-95)
2017 Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes (Domaine Gagey)
The Beaune-Boucherottes has salty, spicy red currant aromas. The mouth is heavier in weight than the Clos des Ursules and features sappy red currant fruit with some spice. This is a completely different expression of Beaune from the Clos des Ursules. (91-94)
2017 Volnay Clos de la Barre
This vineyard is a Jadot monopole. Technically, it is purchased wine, but Jadot farms the vineyard and makes the wine. The wine has intense, deep dark and red fruits. It is medium-weight and elegant but also with a certain amount of power and depth. (91-93)
2017 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots (Domaine Louis Jadot)
There are violets in both the nose and mouth of this wine. Additionally, the mouth has dark fruits and is dense and concentrated, with the flavors dripping of the tongue, and Santenots tannins are on the finish. Note: Jadot produces a separate Santenots cuvée from purchased grapes. (92-94)
2017 Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens (Domaine Louis Jadot)
This Pommard-Rugiens is round, intense, and deep with spicy dark fruits. The wine shows concentration and a combination of power and elegance. Like the Volnay-Santenots, there is also a Jadot Pommard-Rugiens from purchased grapes. (92-95)
2017 Pommard 1er Cru Grands Epenots
This wine shows Epenots round tannins, spicy dark fruits, firmness, and medium weight. It is produced from wine purchased in barrel. (92-94)
2017 Corton-Pougets (Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot)
Last on the Côte de Beaune, the Corton-Pougets shows lightness and finesse of texture that are characteristics of Pougets, but the wine also has concentration, depth, and intensity. Give it some time in the cellar and it should make a fine bottle. (93-95)
