Louis JADOT (Beaune) -- 2016 Part III: Côte de Nuits Premier Cru Red Wines Tasted from Barrel

(Originally published 11 April 2018.)

Background on the vintage at Jadot is located here.

As with the previous reviews of Jadot's 2016's, there is outstanding quality and consistency in this group of wines.

Note: the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses will be reviewed with Jadot's grands crus.

2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges    1er Cru   Les Boudots  (Domaine Gagey)
The nose here is floral. The mouth shows good acidity and the smooth Boudots texture with minerality. The wine is medium-light in the mouth and shows finesse. (91-94)

2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges    1er Cru   Les Vaucrains
This wine is made from purchased grapes that Jadot vinifies. The nose is very stony and very mineral — making it very Vaucrains. The mouth shows dark fruits and the tannins one expects of Vaucrains. (91-95)

2016 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru  Les Suchots
The Suchots shows spice aromas. The mouth is dense, pure, intense, and concentrated. This wine is made from wine that Jadot buys and raises. (92-95)

2016 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru   Les Chaumes
The Vosne-Chaumes has the dark fruit characteristic of the vineyard. The wine is dense and concentrated, but there is also elegance here, and good length. Jadot buys the wine and raises it. (90-93)

2016 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru   Les Beaux Monts
As with the other two Vosne-Romanées above, this wine is from purchased wine that Jadot raises. What good fortune to be able to purchase wine of this quality. The mineral and violet aromas and flavors typical of Beaux Monts are present here and the wine is deep, intense, and pure. (93-96)

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin    1er Cru    Combe aux Moînes   (Domaine Louis Jadot)
This wine is deep and pure with spicy red fruits and a medium-weight body. (91-94)

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin    Estournelles Saint-Jacques   (Domaine Louis Jadot)
Jadot’s Gevrey-Estournelles Saint-Jacques is notably mineral and stony in the nose. The wine is light and nervy with dark fruit and very good energy. (91-94)

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin    1er Cru  Clos Saint-Jacques    (Domaine Louis Jadot)
The Clos Saint-Jacques is smooth in texture and medium-weight with dark fruit, but it was rather closed when I tasted it. (92-95)

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin    1er Cru   Petite Chapelle
The Gevrey-Petite Chapelle is stony and dusty in the nose. The mouth shows red fruits with plenty of tension — this is a very tightly-wound wine, as one expects of Petite Chapelle. Jadot buys this as wine and then raises it. (92-95)

2016 Chambolle-Musigny    1er Cru   Les Baudes   (Domaine Gagey)
The Chambolle-Baudes has dark fruit, minerality, steeliness. There’s good tension here, Baudes spices, and good length. (92-95)

2016 Chambolle-Musigny    1er Cru   Les Sentiers
Jadot’s Chambolle-Sentiers has iodide aromas. The mouth shows dark and red fruits with a smooth texture and some volume to the body. This wine is made from grapes that Jadot purchases and then vinifies. (91-94)
