Louis JADOT (Beaune) 2015 from Barrel Part III -- Côte de Nuits Grands Crus

(Originally published 13 February 2017.)

Jadot’s grands crus that I tasted are successful across the board, and some belong in the very elite category of top wines of the vintage.

2015 Échézeaux   Domaine Louis Jadot
Jadot’s Échézeaux is from the Champs-Traversins and the Rouges du Bas lieux-dits. It is very successful in 2015, consistent with my perception that Échézeaux overall is one of the more favored appellations in 2015. The wine shows good depth, finesse, red fruits, and freshness. (93-97)

2015 Clos Saint-Denis    Domaine Gagey
This is the Domaine Gagey cuvée; Jadot also often has a negociant Clos Saint-Denis bottling. This wine is very good and very typical Clos Saint-Denis: finesse, spices, and red and dark fruits. The wine has good concentration, but also excellent balance. (93-97)

2015 Clos de la Roche
This negociant wine comes from two separate sources. Jadot receives the wine in barrels that it has provided the vignerons. The wine is dark, dense, and energetic with good minerality — typical Clos de la Roche. There is also the finesse of the vintage here.  (93-96)

2015 Clos Vougeot    Domaine Louis Jadot
This is very good Clos Vougeot with typical black raspberry fruit. It is unusually elegant for Clos Vougeot with a Volnay-Caillerets-like texture that rolls of the tongue, but there are plenty of tannins to provide structure for aging, too. (93-96)

2015 Mazis-Chambertin
This negociant wine captures the exoticism that characterizes the better wines from Mazis-Chambertin. The nose has exotic red and dark fruits, and the mouth is dark, dense, exotic, intense, and long.  (93-97)

2015 Chapelle-Chambertin    Domaine Louis Jadot
When tasting from barrel, I usually give a smaller range; here I felt that there was so much more upside potential that I’ve given this wine a larger range. The wine showed rounder and less (relatively) energetic than usual with dark fruits and plenty of power. and depth. It is one to age for quite some time. (92-97)

2015 Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze   Domaine Louis Jadot
Here, Jadot’s grand cru potentially moves into that upper echelon of truly great wine that is not all that frequently seen in 2015. The nose is mineral, and the minerality carries over into the mouth with dark fruit that is intense, deep, and powerful, yet there is also finesse here. The wine shows great tension, something not all that common in 2015. (95-98)

2015 Bonnes-Mares    Domaine Louis Jadot
Bonnes-Mares seems to operate as somewhat of a flagship wine for Jadot, being brought out on many of the most serious occasions to impress, and that certainly will be the case with this wine some decades ahead. The wine has layered dark fruits with freshness and finesse, almost laciness, along with great intensity. (95-99)

2015 Chambolle-Musigny    1er Cru    Les Amoureuses      Domaine Louis Jadot
The Amoureuses is made with about half whole clusters. It is dense, intense, and very concentrated with spiciness, and good length. But it is still quite young, and thus not as easy to judge as some of the others. (93-97)

2015 Musigny    Domaine Louis Jadot
The Musigny is made with whole clusters. The wine is dense and deep with finesse and, somewhat surprisingly, it is less powerful than the Amoureuses. (95-98)
