I’m very sorry to say this, but some of the Ahr wines are just bad to my (Burgundy-trained Pinot Noir) palate, but others are clearly technically-flawed and should not have been allowed by the VDP to bear the GG designation or any designation related to VDP.



BURGGARTEN


2020 (Neuenhar) Schieferlay Spätburgunder GG 

Almond nose. Dense, medium-full, somewhat tannic. chewy, dark fruits, unformed. 85(+)/F 


2020 (Heimersheim) Burggarten Spätburgunder GG 

Ashtray, almond nose. Medium-weight, creamy texture, ashtray. 70/F




DEUTZERHOF


2020 (Neuenahr) Kirchtürmchen Spätburgunder GG 

Indistinct red fruits in nose. Light-bodied, clear red fruits, almost Beaujolais-like. 86/D


2020 (Heimersheim) Landskrone Spätburgunder GG 

Light, indistinct, wood aromas. Light, indistinct in mouth. 85/F




NELLES


2020 (Ahrweiler) Rosenthal Spätburgunder GG

Touch of almond in nose. Medium-light body, red fruits, elegance and finesse, a bit of tannin on the finish. 87+/C


2020 (Heimersheim) Burggarten Spätburgunder GG

Floral nose. Light, elegant mouth with precise, attractive red cherry fruit, good freshness. 87+/C
