Other than the Riesling trocken below, the rest of the wines here are outstanding in this challenging vintage, just as one would expect from this great and consistent estate.
2018 Riesling trocken
2018 is a vintage of highly uneven wines, even within a single estate. The wine has a medium-weight body with minerality but no real personality, unlike most vintages. This wine typically is made from grapes taken in during a pre-harvest. 12.0% stated alcohol. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 0219. 85/C
2018 Brauneberger Riesling trocken
Here we have something in a different universe from the basic Riesling trocken. This wine is light and focused with slate minerality, stoniness, and a dancing quality on the palate. 12.5% stated alcohol. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 1719. 91/A-
2018 (Brauneberg) Juffer Riesling Grosses Gewächs
Apricot jam nose. Medium-weight, round, relaxed, good purity to apricot fruit. 92/A
2018 (Brauneberg) Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Grosses Gewächs
Yellow peach aromas and flavors, medium-weight, some tension, penetration. 92/A
2018 Riesling
It’s like night and day for me between this estate Riesling and the estate Riesling trocken above. This wine is crisp, pure, focused, and balanced with slate mineral fruit, energy, and a virtually dry finish. 90/A
2018 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett
This is outstanding and typical Mosel Kabinett — light and flowery with slate minerality and crisp, nervy acidity. 9.0% stated alcohol. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 0319. 92/A
2018 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Spätlese
This is pure, crackling, focused, slate-driven Riesling with acidity that perfectly offsets the residual sugar, creating tension and energy. Perhaps a little less sweet than the Juffer-Sonnenuhr Spätlese and showing a little more peach at this time. 8.0% stated alcohol. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 05 19. 93/A
2018 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese
Excellent acidity here with a chewy body, and penetrating slate mineral fruit. 7.5% stated alcohol. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 07 19. 93/A
