Fortunately, much of those who drive the astronomic prices of top Burgundies have yet to discover the heights to which Jean-Louis Trapet has taken this venerable estate. This is a super sample of wines, and as you can see from my notes on vintage conditions on these and other Trapet wines from barrel and bottle following my November 2016 tasting at the property, this is one of the elite collections in all of the Côte d’Or for the vintage.

As with many 2015s, these wines have already begun to close, but there is a brilliant future for them.
2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea
This is the second of two village Gevrey-Chambertins that Trapet has in 2015. It is pure and mineral with dark fruits. The wine is light on the palate and penetrating, showing overall finesse. 93/A+
2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Capita
The Capita is from premier crus where the amounts produced were too small to be separately bottled. Specifically, the wine is from the En Ergot, Aux Combottes, and Les Corbeaux vineyards. The wine features dark fruits and is racy and penetrating. It is an exciting wine. 94/A
2015 Chambertin
Trapet’s Chambertin is in the running for greatest wine of the vintage. The wine is pure, balanced, layered, and complex with dark fruit and great freshness. 97+/A+
