Domaine VERRET/Bruno VERRET (Northern Burgundy) -- Recent Wines

There's some inconsistency in the wines here, but at their best, they show decent quality at attractive prices.

2022 Saint-Bris   Sauvignon

A mixture of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris from the area near Auxerre, this is a standard, uninteresting wine with slight apple and pear flavors in a medium-weight body. Synthetic cork. 12.5% stated alcohol. Lot L04723S. St-Bris.  85/C

2022 Bourgogne-Aligoté

Fresh, light, mineral, lemony nose with some penetration. Medium-light in mouth with some creamy roundness, adequate acidity but not more, lemony flavors. Synthetic cork closure. 12% stated alcohol.  87(+)/B

2021 Bourgogne-Aligoté

Similar to the 2020 version of this wine that I have already reviewed, this is a light-bodied wine with excellent acidic grip and lemon and green apple aromas and flavors. Drink over the next couple of years. Synthetic cork closure. 12% stated alcohol. Lot L123122A BgneAl1. 90/A

2021 Bourgogne  Côte d’Auxerre  Chardonnay

This is fairly standard Chardonnay with that is slightly flat to my taste, due to the moderate acidity.  Synthetic cork. 12.5% stated alcohol. Lot L20122X CoteAuxB. 85/C

2021 Chablis 1er Cru   Beauroy

This is an attractive wine from a mixed vintage and a vineyard that although premier cru is not considered near the top of the hierarchy. The wine has some sea salt along with apple aromas and flavors and is medium-light and smooth. I’d drink it over the next several years. Difficult to tell about the closure — perhaps synthetic with cork at both the ends. 13% stated alcohol. Lot L17522F Chablis 1er.  91/A-

2021 Bourgogne  Côte d’Auxerre  Pinot Noir

No complexity here, just a very enjoyable bottle that is medium-light in weight with red cherry fruit and good acidic support. Synthetic cork. 12.5% stated alcohol. Lot L19922X CAuxRge. 87/B+

2020 Irancy

Irancy formerly was known for the César grape, but these days, César is but a minor element, if at all, in many producers’ blends, the rest being Pinot Noir (and there are producers who use a little of the Tressot grape). Here, the mixture is 95% Pinot Noir and 5% César. This wine is medium-light and velvety with fragrant dark fruits; there’s also a bit of spice in the nose and on the palate which may be due to the presence of the César. The wine drinks well already but has the balance to suggest that it can age for some time. Synthetic cork closure. 13% stated alcohol. Lot L23521Y Irancy. 87(+)/B
