Domaine Pierre Guillemot (Savigny-lès-Beaune): 2022 Tasted from Barrel and a Pair of 2021s Tasted from Bottle

Vincent Guillemot said that harvesting in 2022 began on 28 August. He used about half whole clusters for all the wines, with five days of immersion of the chapeau at the end of vinification. Overall, yield for the reds was 35 hl/ha, 42 hl/ha for the whites. Alcohols are about 12.5%.

The estate was certified organic in 2021 and now is practicing biodynamic methods.

Savigny-lès-Beaune is not a glamor name among Côte d’Or villages the way Gevrey-Chambertin or Volnay are, but you will find tremendous quality here at keen prices, and the 2022s here are real standouts.

For 2022, I only tasted the reds.

2022 Bourgogne  Côte d’Or

Pure red cherry fruit in the nose. The mouth is fresh, clear, and intense with good acidity. From vines that average about 65 years in age. (87-90)

2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune   vieilles vignes

This wine is broad with pure red cherry fruit, and it shows good acidity, energy, and liveliness. (90-92)

2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune   Les Grands Picotins

The Grands Picotins features somewhat riper cherry fruit with more roundness, and it has good acidity and penetration. (90-92)

2022 Savigny-lès-Narbantons   1er Cru

The fruit here is darker and there is more roundness. This is an intense wine, and it shows typical Narbantons roundness. (90-92)

2022 Savigny-lès-Jarrons   1er Cru

The Jarrons, upslope from Narbantons, has dark cherry fruit, purity, roundness, good density, and a medium-weight body. (91-93)

2022 Savigny Aux Gravains   1er Cru

Switching from the premiers crus on the south side of the village to those on the north side, the Gravains is energetic with tension, sensuality, red fruits, and penetration. (92-94)

2022 Savigny Aux Serpentières   1er Cru

As is usual here, the Serpentières is the top Savigny wine, and it is a wine that can age very well for many decades. Guillemot’s plot is at mid-slope, and Vincent says that as one goes higher up, above the cemetery that is an inlet into the lower left portion of the Serpentières vineyard, the potential for wines is less good. The nose here is a touch spirity, but it is not bothersome. The mouth is long, elegant, and harmonious with red fruits. (92-95)

2022 Corton   Le Rognet et Corton

Last for 2022, the Corton is sensual and pure with red fruits, minerality, length, freshness, and elegance. (93-96)

And to finish, a pair of 2021s from bottle.

First, a white:

2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune   Dessus les Gollardes

An attractive and unusual wine, 70% from Pinot Blanc, 30% from Chardonnay. Mineral aromas are followed by a medium-weight mouth with a smooth texture, minerality and some hazelnut flavors. Overall sensuality.  90/A

Then a red:

2021 Savigny   Aux Serpentières   1er Cru

The wine shows red fruits and is pure and mineral, but less generous than the 2022 version. 90(+)/B+
