Some years ago, I found Rossignol’s wines to be grotesquely over-extracted and over-oaked. They’ve improved since then, but still have further to go, in my opinion. Some others are more positive about these wines than I.
2015 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles
This wine is medium-weight and has density for this vineyard. The wine is smooth in texture, and the fruit is dark, but overall I find it a rustic wine. 87/C
2015 Volnay 1er Cru Cailleret
This wine has Cailleret lightness in weight and dark fruit, but there is still rusticity here. 89/B
2015 Volnay 1er Cru Chevret
Rossignol's Volnay-Chevret is light in weight with indistinct red fruits. 87/C
2015 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots
From one of Volnay’s top vineyards, some claim it as the top Volnay vineyard, the Volnay-Santenots has spicy dark fruits and a touch of minerality in a medium-weight body. As with Santenots in general, expect this wine to need some aging. 90(+)/B+
