Domaine La BÉGUDE -- Bandol and Other Recent Releases

Certified organic. This estate belongs to the Tari family, long associated with Château Giscours in Margaux and Château Nairac in Barsac. It is the highest and most northerly estate in Bandol; 30 hectares are under vine, but the entire estate consists of 500 hectares.

These are excellent wines and worthy of your attention.

2020 Bandol   blanc   cuvée André

This is the young vine cuvée of La Bégude’s white Bandol. The wine is crisp but oily in texture with some minerality and good length.  88/B+

2020 Bandol   blanc   cuvée Amphore

This is the old vine cuvée of the white, raised in amphore, as the name indicates. The wine is mineral, rich, oily, pure, and lively, with excellent depth. 91/A

2020 Bandol   rosé

Made predominantly from Mourvèdre, this wine is mineral, pure, light, and saline with very good depth. 90/A

2020 Banol  rosé   L’Irréductable

L’Irréductable is 100% Mourvèdre. The wine is salty and firm with very good depth and density. Like other top Bandol rosé wines, it needs some time in bottle to show its best. 91/A

2020 Méditerranée  rouge   Cadet de la Bégude

This is a young vine cuvée that includes 15% declassified fruit from the Bandol. The wine is medium-weight with pure dark fruits. It is still quite young but has a good potential. 89/A-

2018 Bandol rouge

The nose is intense with deep Mourvèdre dark fruit aromas. The wine is medium-light on the palate, nervy, intense, and deep, and there are tannins to support substantial aging. 92(+)/A

2017 Bandol  rouge   La Brulade

La Brulade is made from a plot that is the highest that the domaine has, planted 95% Mourvèdre and 5% Grenache on clay-limestone soils. The altitude, the proximity to the Mediterranean, and the Mistral winds all combine to moderate the temperatures. The nose is intense with deep Mourvèdre earthiness. The mouth is medium-full, intense, deep, and powerful. There are still tannins to resolve, but the wine already shows great potential. 13.5% stated alcohol. 94+/A
