Harvesting in 2022 began on the first of September, said Fred Mugnier. It was a hot dry year, and he was very pessimistic at the beginning of August. A little rain around 20 August helped. The wines came in around 13.5 to 14% alcohol. Malolactic fermentations finished in December.
The style is not the same as that of the great 2021s here, but it is another fabulous vintage — lucky those who will be able to drink and appreciate these wines.
2022 Chambolle-Musigny
The village Chambolle showed outstanding quality. The fruit is darker than that of the 2021, and the wine is voluptuous, sensual, long, and pure. (92-94)
2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées
The Fuées is deep and pure with Fuées earthiness. The wine shows more structure than the village wine and has excellent length. It is a classic Fuées, but expressed via a vintage that is substantially different from 2021. (93-95)
2022 Bonnes-Mares
The sensational Bonnes-Mares has depth, power, and complexity to go with an explosion of dark fruits. It is entirely different from the 2021 version, this one being extroverted, and that one being more of an introvert in comparison. (96-99)
2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses
Continuing, the Chambolle-Amoureuses is energetic and pure with spicy dark fruits and great depth and length. The explosiveness is contained nevertheless by the overall harmony. (96-99)
2022 Musigny
Finishing in Chambolle with the great Musigny, an wine of enormous potential, and I think we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg at this point. The wine has incredible length and seems like five wines packed into one (but not in terms of unbalanced concentration, yet at the same time it is very closed compared to what I expect it will become. (98-99)
2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale rouge
The Clos de la Maréchale has minerality in its nose. The mouth is round, deep, and powerful with dark fruits, and one can seemingly tasted gravelly stones. The wine is direct and muscular — this is Nuits from Prémeaux, and unlike the 2021, no hint of its Chambolle relation. (93-96)
2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale blanc
The white Clos de la Maréchale is stony in the nose. In the mouth, the texture is somewhat oily; the minerality of the nose continues, supplemented by some nutty flavors, making for complexity. Excellent length here. (92-94)
