It’s not yet apparent to me whether 2022 will be at the same spectacular in whites as it is in reds, but it does appear to be a top white vintage, nonetheless, and this Faiveley selection shows real strength.

2022 Ladoix

For various reasons, in the past, there wasn’t a great deal of Ladoix to be found in the marketplace, but with increased demand for Burgundy and increased prices, especially for whites, the potential there is starting to come into view. From vines that are only eight years-old, this wine greatly overachieves. The nose shows great minerality. The mouth is citric, mineral, pure, and penetrating. (89-92)

2022 Puligny-Montrachet    1er Cru   La Garenne

The Puligny-La Garenne is classic for the vineyard. The nose is mineral, and the mouth shows sensuality, luminosity, tension, purity, length, and linear development. (92-94)

2022 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet

The nose here is stony and nobly austere. The mouth is fresh, intense, concentrated, deep, and long with minerality. This is a wine that still needs substantial time in barrel and then probably bottle, but the potential is for greatness. (95-97)

2022 Bâtard-Montrachet

Although oak is apparent in the Bâtard-Montrachet’s nose, there is also noble austerity here. The mouth is pure, nervy with tension, and fresh. It shows less minerality and detail than the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, but more power. (95-97)

2022 Corton-Charlemagne

This is not the definitive Corton-Charlemagne — it is from a plot purchased in 1872 containing the oldest vines in the plot and some others. The nose is complex, stony, and spicy. The mouth is flabergasting: intense, deep, and energetic with layered lime flavors. (97-99)

Another barrel is from a plot of 1/3 ha. that had been planted in Pinot Noir and used for the Clos des Cortons. The plot was replanted in 2014, so these are still young vines. This wine probably will go into the final Corton-Charlemagne, but no definitive decision had been made when I tasted. The wine is intense, fresh, penetrating, lemony, and pure. (95-97)
