Given the very high quality of the premiers crus that I tasted from Faiveley, you’d expect very high quality for the grands crus, right?  Right.

2022 Echézeaux   En Orveaux

Although En Orveaux has historically not been regarded as one of the top Echézeaux lieux-dits, through the years Faiveley has managed to make good wines from it. And more recently, global warming has helped wines from this portion of Echézeaux. The wine has plenty of finesse, almost laciness, with dark fruits and a silky/cashmere texture to go with density and minerality.  (93-96)

2022 Latricières-Chambertin

Latricières-Chambertin is a vineyard I’ve always found to be a bit underrated in the general marketplace, and Faiveley’s has always been in my top rung of examples; certainly, this is a topflight result. The wine is nervous and energetic with a cool, steely texture, linear development, and outstanding length.  (94-97)

2022 Mazis-Chambertin

Like Latricières-Chambertin, Faiveley’s Mazis-Chambertin has always been in my top tier from that vineyard. Erwan Faiveley says he thinks this wine may be his greatest 2022. The nose here is fabulous and complex in its raspberry combinations. The mouth shows crushed raspberries, purity, clarity, precision, length, and finesse. As should be the case with Mazis-Chambertin, there are fireworks going off in the mouth —- Mazis is the Richebourg of the Chambertins. In addition, the wine has a cashmere texture and incredible freshness and energy. (96-99)

2022 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

Faiveley’s Chambertin-Clos de Bèze has a velvet texture and dark fruits, but still is somewhat closed. Great harmony here, and one can only dream of what this wine will show at maturity. (96-98)

2022 Corton   Clos des Cortons Faiveley

Last among the reds, the flagship Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley has earthiness and minerality in the nose with some violets showing through. The mouth displays the finesse of the vintage that plays against the power of Corton, and the wine has layers of texture, freshness, and outstanding tension. Simply great!  (96-98)
