Domaine Denis MORTET/Arnaud MORTET (Gevrey-Chambertin) -- 2015s Tasted from Bottle

(Originally posted 1 April 2018)

These and other 2015s from Mortet are reviewed from cask here. The quality of the wines is uniformly excellent.

2015 Gevrey-Chambertin   Mes Cinq Terroirs
Here we have ripe red fruits in an airy wine that is flowing. But the tension and energy of the 2016 are not present here. 91/A

2015 Gevrey-Chambertin    1er Cru   Les Champeaux
The Gevrey-Champeaux has a meaty nose. The mouth is airy and calm with red cherry and other fruits and the wine shows excellent purity. 60% whole clusters here, 70% new oak. 93/A

2015 Gevrey-Chambertin      1er Cru     Lavaux Saint-Jacques
Mortet’s Gevrey-Lavaux Saint-Jacques is mineral and energetic with darker fruit than the Champeaux. One can see the limestone in the energy here. The wine shows very good finesse for Lavaux Saint-Jacques. Very little whole cluster fruit here, maybe 10%. 93+/A

2015 Bonnes-Mares
The splendid Bonnes-Mares is airy with red fruits and very good finesse. The wine has 75% new oak on it (Mortet had four barrels, of which three were new, but only could keep two of them). 95/A

2015 Chambertin
Last, the Chambertin has ripe fruits in the nose. The mouth features fresh dark fruits that are precise and balanced by good acidity. There’s some stoniness here and good length. 96/A
