Domaine de Montille 2022 Reds, Part 2: Wines from Pommard, Corton, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos-Vougeot, and Vosne-Romanée

Continuing to the more structured Côte de Beaune wines and the Côte de Nuits wines.

2022 Pommard   Les Cras

This is outstanding for a village Pommard. It shows dark cherry and blueberry fruit, firmness, intensity, density, and concentration. About 20% new oak on this wine. (91-94)

2022 Pommard   1er Cru   Les Pézerolles

This wine is a bit lighter in weight than the Cras, and is firm in texture with dark fruits and notable tannins showing. It is from sandy limestone soils. Half whole clusters used, about 25% new oak. (92-95)

2022 Pommard    1er Cru   Rugiens du Bas

I found the Rugiens to be medium-full in weight, round, and intense, but still unformed and needing more time before I could get an idea of it.

2022 Corton-Clos du Roi

Made entirely from whole clusters, the Corton-Clos du Roi is elegant, layered, pure, long, and intense. (94-96)

2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges    Aux Saints-Juliens

This is outstanding village wine, from a vineyard well-sited at the southern end of the Vosne slope of Nuits-St-Georges, has black raspberry aromas. The mouth is medium-weight and elegant, falling in layers on the tongue with black fruit flavors and a sensual texture. Great complexity here. More than 50% whole clusters. (92-94)

2022 Clos-Vougeot

The Clos-Vougeot is from 45 year-old vines on the north side of the little tower in the Clos. The wine is layered with dark fruit and shows good length, intensity, and concentration. 40% new oak here, 1/3 whole clusters. (93-96)

2022 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru    Aux Malconsorts

The wine is spicy, elegant, and pure with deep, complex, penetrating dark fruits and tannins showing on the finish. It is a complete (and great) wine. Two-thirds whole clusters here. (96-98)

2022 Vosne-Romanée    1er Cru    Aux Malconsorts    Cuvée Christianne

From a slice of Malconsorts bordered on the north and the west by La Tâche, this cuvée is named after the late Christianne de Montille, mother of Étienne and wife of Hubert. The wine is more closed than the previous Malconsorts — the malolactic fermentation finished relatively late. But the purity and dark fruits here are unmistakeable — and hence so, too, is the greatness of this wine. (96-99)

2020 Corton-Clos du Roi

The 2020 version of the Corton-Clos du Roi shows finesse, purity, and length with a silky, smooth texture, and plenty of dark fruits. 95/A
