Yields for the whites were 36-38 hl/ha, 20% new oak. The wines sampled here range from very good to magnificent.
2022 Côte de Beaune Les Pierres Blanches
The Pierres Blanches is a 0.90 ha vineyard in the rare Côte de Beaune appellation behind the Beaune vineyards. The nose is floral. The medium-light body shows some of the firmness and minerality I associate with whites from Beaune, but also a bit more finesse and not quite as much body as the Beaune blancs I’m familiar with. The texture is smooth and there are some golden fruits and the wine shows excellent length. This won’t resemble a Meursault, Puligny, or Chassagne, but it provides interest and very good drinking in its own right. (90-93)
2022 Puligny-Montrachet
The village Puligny is from three separate parcels, all harvested the same day. The nose is penetrating and features lime blossoms typical of Puligny. The mouth is light and pure with minerality. It is a refreshing, shimmering wine. (91-93)
2022 Chassagne-Morgeot 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle
This is the from the Chardonnay portion of the new acquisition that I mentioned in my previous post. The nose is complex with floral, orange zest, and lime blossom aromas. The mouth is round, smooth, and silky with orange zest accents. The wine is long and airy. (91-94)
2022 Vougeot 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc
This rare Vougeot white is a Vougeraie monopole. It contains small amounts of Pinot Blanch and Pinot Gris along with the Chardonnay. The wine shows more body than the previous two, with elegance and silkiness but also the structure of whites from the Côte de Nuits. It is constantly changing in the mouth which provides further interest. (92-94)
2022 Charlemagne
The Charlemagne is from both the En Charlemagne and the Le Charlemagne portions of the hill. The wine is intense and explosive but also round and gentle in texture with minerality and length. It is a dreamy wine that is very pure and very clear. Once again, we encounter the civilizing aspect of the vintage that adds to the finesse. (95-98)
2022 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
As fabulous as the Charlemage is, the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet makes even a bit more of an impression. The nose is floral and mineral. The mouth is airy and shows astounding finesse with purity, tremendous length, butter, and lime. It is ethereal and haunting. (97-99)
