Comte Georges de VOGÜÉ (Chambolle-Musigny) -- 2017 Tasted from Barrel

Chambolle-Musigny suffered greatly from the frost in 2016; wines that had low yields from frost in one year generally produce abundantly in the following year. As a result, de Vogüé did a green harvest to limit the yields, explained longtime technical director François Millet. Harvesting began on 2 September, and yields were in the range of 30-35 hl/ha, as opposed to an average of 25 hl/ha.

2017 Chambolle-Musigny
The nose here is deep with stones and dark fruits. The mouth is fresh and pure with dark berry fruit. The wine is light on the palate and very precision. Good structure and finesse. This appears to be a wine that can be drunk young. (91-94)

2017 Chambolle-Musigny   1er Cru
As always, this is the wine from Musigny vines that are less than 25 years-old. They were the first to be picked in 2017, at 13º natural alcohol. The wine shows concentration and elegance, in fact, tremendous finesse. It is long and firm with freshness, depth, and blueberry and blackberry fruit.  (93-96)

2017 Chambolle-Musigny   1er Cru  Les Amoureuses
The Amoureuses has spicy aromas. The mouth shows great concentration of fruits and quite a bit of power along with a smooth texture. (94-96)

2017 Bonnes-Mares
The nose shows stones and earth. The mouth is lighter in weight than the Amoureuses, but with great concentration and density. The fruit has an earthy, almost fig, aspect along with fresh blueberries, but this wine is rather closed at the moment. (95-97)

2017 Musigny   vieilles vignes
As outstanding as the Bonnes-Mares is, it’s a step up to the Musigny. The nose features crushed blackberries. The mouth is spicy with a dense texture on the tongue for its blackberry fruit. The wine is long with freshness and elegance, but still quite closed. A great wine in the making. (97-99)
