CHANSON (Beaune) -- 2016 Tasted from Bottle Part II: White Wines

(Originally published 1 May 2018.)

My introduction to Chanson is here.

This selection of whites is good, but not as impressive as the selection of reds I previously reviewed.

The Savigny-Hauts Marconnets, Beaune-Clos des Mouches, and Corton-Vergennes are estate wines, the Viré-Clessé and Chablis are négociant wines.

2016 Viré-Clessé
I found this wine disappointing. It had a smooth texture and apple fruit, but was a bit flat. 85/C

2016 Chablis
This Chablis is light in body with minerality and some penetration. 87/B

2016 Savigny-les-Beaune   1er Cru   Hauts Marconnets
This wine is medium-light with purity, minerality, and elegance. 90/B+

2016 Beaune    1er Cru   Clos des Mouches
The Beaune-Clos des Mouches is light, mineral, pure, deep, precise, and sculpted. There’s an outstanding future down the road for this wine. 92+/A

2016 Corton-Vergennes
Last, the Corton-Vergennes is mineral, round, and broad, but it is not especially stony and lacks the penetration of a better wine. 90(+)/B
