As I mentioned in the previous post, harvesting on the Côte de Nuits began on 11 September and continued through the 20th. 25-40% of the stems were retained to provide some aromatic freshness to offset the high maturity of the vintage. Alcohol levels were 13 to 14%.
2017 Chambolle-Musigny
Some hot vintage aromas. Mouth has dark fruits, good freshness, round, long, smooth, soft acidity. Good length. Half from domaine vines. 30% whole cluster, 20% new oak. (86-88)
2017 Gevrey-Chambertin
Saline nose. Salty in mouth with dark fruits, good freshness. Bouchard farms much of the land for this wine, but it does buy some wine from vignerons. 40% whole clusters. (87-89)
2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porrets Saint-Georges Domaine
Finesse, lightness, depth, some minerality, mostly dark berry fruits. Maybe not typical because of the finesse, but very attractive. The vines are more than 60 years-old; they are Pinot très fin and there is also some Pinot Gris (called Beurot in Burgundy) here. (91-94)
2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles Domaine
Rust and blood aromas and flavors, along with dark fruit flavors, good structure for the vintage, long, pure, fresh. (92-95)
2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers Domaine
Lower part of vineyard. About 50% whole clusters. Some Cazetiers animal, depth, purity, dark fruits, some power, medium-full, good length, a touch of salinity. (92-95)
2017 Clos Vougeot Domaine
Have ripped up bottom part so only top part of the vineyard is in this wine. Dark fruit, good minerality, a hint of caramel, soft tannins. Lacks a bit of the structure I associate with Clos Vougeot. (89-92)
2017 Echézeaux Domaine
Dark fruit, good minerality, sensuality of texture, some tannin underneath. Promising. From the En Orveaux climat. (91-94)
2017 Bonnes Mares Domaine
Floral nose. Violets in mouth along with dark fruits, medium-full with some power, some tannin, this is a wine that will take and demand more aging than the foregoing. (93-95)
2017 Chambertin Domaine
Dark fruits, salinity, freshness in this vintage; young and needs time, but lots of promise here. Nice density of concentration, and some minerality. (92-95)
2017 Chapelle-Chambertin
From purchased grapes. Steely, nervy nose with a touch of caramel. Dark fruit, some rust, good balance and length, some tension. May be even better with aging. (92-94)
2017 Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze
Also from purchased grapes. Some caramel in nose. Light in mouth, dark fruit, good depth. Relatively unformed. Length. A wine to follow. (92-95)
