2021 Saar (Mosel) Riesling GG Part III: Gottesfuss, Rausch, Scharzhofberger, and Volz from Vereinigte Hospiten, Van Volxem, and Zilliken/Forstmeister Geltz

This is the last batch of the great 2021 Saar GG’s for now, but surely more will be shown next year.

VEREINIGTE HOSPITEN

2021 (Wiltingen) Scharzhofberger Riesling GG

Fruity nose and mouth with both openness and structure; good clarity. Not the most noble Scharzhofberger (there’s some serious competition!), but a fine example. 93/A

VAN VOLXEM

Finishing off Van Volxem’s 2021 GG collection which is the best I’ve seen from this outstanding estate.

2021 (Wiltingen) Gottesfuss Riesling GG

Stony, pure, with penetration, medium-weight, some sensuality, good length. 94/A

2021 (Wiltingen) Scharzhofberger Riesling GG

Stony, penetrating nose. Round, pure, elegant, penetrating, with incipient yellow fruit. Great length. A fascinating wine. 95/A+

2021 (Wiltingen) Volz Riesling GG

White and yellow peach fruit, medium-light, elegance, finesse. 94/A

ZILLIKEN/Forstmeister GELTZ

2021 (Saarburg) Rausch Riesling GG

Pure, floral, sensuous nose — yellow fruits with a hint of quince. Round, light, pure, deep. 94/A
