2021 and 2020 Rheinhessen Riesling GG Part IV: Bruderberg, Hipping, Orbel, Zehnmorgen from Gunderloch, Kühling-Gillot, St. Antony, and Schätzel

There are very good wines here, but it’s not one of the star areas of the vintage, and indeed, I probably have a slight preference for 2020 in this region, based on what I’ve tasted.

GUNDERLOCH

2021 (Nierstein) Hipping Riesling GG

Minerality in the nose and on palate, medium-weight, good intensity and length. 92/A

KÜHLING-GILLOT

2021 (Nierstein) Hipping Riesling GG

Minerality, some richness, some creaminess of texture. 91/A-

ST. ANTONY

2021 (Nierstein) Brudersberg Riesling GG

Mineral, pure, precise, yellow fruits. Medium-weight, some firmness and power. 90/B+

2021 (Nierstein) Hipping Riesling GG

Medium-light with some minerality  to its dark plum fruit and some clarity, but not the precision of a better wine. 91/A-

2021 (Nierstein) Orbel Riesling GG

Ripe, round, mineral yellow plum fruit with some juiciness. Enjoyable for what it is. 91/A-

2021 (Nierstein) Zehnmorgen Riesling GG

Spiced, perfumed nose. Mineral mouth, medium-light body, elegant. 92/A

SCHÄTZEL

2020 (Nierstein) Hipping Riesling GG

Floral, perfumed nose. Some minerality to go with dark plum fruit, good length. 91/A-
