2021 and 2020 Wien ÖTW Erste Lage Grüner Veltliner from Ried Gollin, Ried Preussen, Ried Schenkenberg, Ried Steinberg from Fuhrgassl-Huber, Hajszan-Neumann, Mayer am Pfarrplatz, Wieninger

 


Vienna is not as famous for Grüner Veltliner as the regions to the west such as Wachau and Kamptal, but these wines are quite honorable, and in the case of Mayer am Pfarrplatz, a revelation.



FUHRGASSL-HUBER


2020 (Nussberg) Ried Gollin Grüner Veltliner 

Rich, glossy texture, medium-weight, showing a little heat, some white fruit. Screw cap closure. 14% stated alcohol. 88/B




HAJSZAN-NEUMANN


2021 (Grinzing) Ried Steinberg Grüner Veltliner 

Round, ripe, a bit sweet on finish, touch of celery root. Cork closure. 89/B




MAYER AM PFARRPLATZ


2021 (Grinzing) Ried Schenkenberg Grüner Veltliner 

Rich, peachy, long, medium-full Screw cap closure. 14% stated alcohol. 93/A




WIENINGER


2021 (Nussberg) Ried Preussen Grüner Veltliner 

Rich, full-bodied, a bit top-heavy, but interesting, subtle earth flavors. Cork closure. 88(?)/B
