2021 and 2020 Rheingau Riesling Part IV: Hohenrain, Marcobrunn, and Siegelsberg from Kloster Eberbach, Knyphausen, Georg Müller Stiftung, von Oetinger, and Prinz

In addition to the wines below, I tasted 2020 Hohenrain and 2020 Siegelsberg from Jacob Jung, but the wines were not representative of the quality I know from long experience to expect from Jung, and so I suspect that they were not representative and I am not reviewing them here.

KLOSTER EBERBACH

2020 (Erbach) Marcobrunn Riesling GG

Mineral with a light animality in nose. Light, pure, slightly mineral with incipient fruits. Could develop into something special. 91+/A-

Baron KNYPHAUSEN

2020 (Erbach) Hohenrain Riesling GG

Spicy, perfumed nose. The mouth is lacking a bit of depth and penetration, this wine nevertheless shows good complexity to its yellow plum fruit. 91(+)/A-

Georg MÜLLER STIFTUNG

2020 (Erbach) Siegelsberg Riesling GG

Medium-weight, light yellow plum, density, but not a full expression of the potential here. 90/B+

VON OETINGER

2020 (Erbach) Hohenrain Riesling GG

Some richness and fleshiness, some golden fruit, but still good freshness. 91+/A-

2021 (Erbach) Marcobrunn Riesling GG

Much denser, more powerful than the Marcobrunn from Prinz; spicy, animal, long, intense. 93+/A

2021 (Erbach) Siegelsberg Riesling GG

Fresh, round, clear, some salinity, yellow plum. 92(+)/A

PRINZ

It is gratifying to see this excellent producer expanding his estate with this great vineyard.

2021 (Erbach) Marcobrunn Riesling GG

Spicy, slightly animal in both nose and mouth. Medium-light body. This shows the complexity that one should expect from Marcobrunn. 93+/A
