2021, 2020, and 2019 Rheinhessen Riesling GG Part I: Kirchberg and Scharlachberg from Bischel, Kruger-Rumpf, Salm, and Wagner-Stempel

Due to political boundaries of the regions, these wines are Rheinhessen, but based on location and style, should be considered Nahe wines akin to those in my previous post.

BISCHEL

2021 (Bingen) Scharlachberg Riesling GG

Mineral, some grip, but not a lot of precision to the fruit. 90/B+

KRUGER-RUMPF

2021 (Bingen) Scharlachberg Riesling GG

Mineral but a bit soft on the palate. Below my expectations for this fine producer. 89/B

Prinz SALM

2020 (Bingen) Kirchberg Riesling GG

Light, pure, mineral, good intensity and penetration. 93/A

2019 (Bingen) Scharlachberg Riesling GG

Mineral, good acidity, medium-weight, good penetration. 92/A

2020 (Bingen) Scharlachberg Riesling GG

Less acidity than in the Kirchberg, a little flabby (to my acid-craving palate), but still enough to hold together with pear fruit. 90/B+

WAGNER-STEMPEL

2021 (Bingen) Scharlachberg Riesling GG

Mineral, some pear, but lacking the grip and concentration of the best 2021s. 90/B+
