2020 Rheingau Riesling GG Part V: Hölle, Klaus, Rothenberg, Schloss Johannisberg, Seligmacher from , Prinz von Hessen, Johannishof, Kesseler, Schloss Johannisberg, and Wegeler

As noted previously, many Rheingau estates are holding back their GG’s an extra year before release, so this set is entirely from 2020.

Prinz VON HESSEN

2020 (Johannisberg) Klaus Riesling GG

Salty, spicy nose and mouth; medium-weight, good intensity and concentration. A fine effort from this producer who has large been off my radar screen. 93/A

JOHANNISHOF

2020 (Johannisberg) Hölle Riesling GG

Light in weight, not terribly intense, but lots of finesse here to go with light white fruits. Still, this is one of the less impressive wines I know from what is one of my favorite Rheingau estates. 88/B-

August KESSELER

2020 (Lorchhausen) Seligmacher Riesling GG

Pear and quince fruit in a medium-light body. 91/A-

SCHLOSS JOHANNISBERG

2020 (Johannisberg) Schloss Johannisberg Riesling GG

Mineral nose and mouth, salinity, purity; perhaps slightly lacking in the intensity and concentration of a still greater wine. 93(+)/A

Geheimrat J. WEGELER — Gutshaus RHEINGAU

2020 (Geisenheim) Rothenberg Riesling GG

Light in weight, some minerality, some penetration. 90(+)/B+
