2020 and 2019 Rheingau Grosses Gewächs Riesling Part II (Baikenkopf, Gräfenberg, Hohenrain, Langenberg, Marcobrunn, Siegelsberg from Dieffenhardt, Kloster Eberbach, Jung, Knyphausen, Oettinger, Weil)

Topflight wines here, although nothing to challenge the great Künstlers in the previous post.

DIEFENHARDT

2019 (Martinsthal) Langenberg Riesling GG

Pure, deep, elegant, perfumed apricot; this is a rich wine with somewhat soft structure — I’d drink it young. 92/A

Hessische Staatsweingüter KLOSTER EBERBACH

2019 (Rauenthal) Baikenkopf Riesling GG

Dense, a little tar, deep, needs time. Perhaps a little short on structure? 91(+?)/A-

2019 (Erbach) Marcobrunn Riesling GG

Marcobrunn animality in nose. Medium-weight, some plum fruit, but still rather closed for now. 92(+?)/A

Jakob JUNG

2020 (Erbach) Hohenrain Riesling GG

Dense, deep, pure, intense, edgy, and spicy. 93(+)/A

2019 (Erbach) Siegelsberg Riesling GG

Yellow plum, still rather restrained. good power, penetration. Needs a few years in bottle. 93(+)/A

Baron KNYPHAUSEN

2020 (Erbach) Hohenrain Riesling GG

Spicy nose, some attractive earthiness. Medium-weight in mouth, good desnsity, stylized, with power. 92/A

von OETTINGER

2020 (Erbach) Hohenrain Riesling GG

Floral, perfumed nose. Medium-weight body, elegant, pure, floral, and lovely. 93(+)/A

2020 (Erbach) Marcobrunn Riesling GG

Intense, deep, pure, powerful. Good, sharp acidity with some Marcobrunn animality. Von Oettinger has taken this jewel over from the once-great Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern property and is doing an outstanding job with it. 94(+)/A

Robert WEIL

2020 (Kiedrich) Gräfenberg Riesling GG

Honeyed yellow plum nose — still rather closed. Good density, depth, very primary still, finesse, concentration. 94/A
