2020 (and a 2019 and 2018) Rheinhessen Grosses Gewächs Riesling Part V (Heerkretz, Hölle, Kirchberg, Scharlachberg and EMT from Bischel, Kruger-Rumpf, Salm, and Wagner-Stempel)

Because of political boundaries, these wines are all in the Rheinhessen, but from a terroir standpoint, they are Nahe wines (Nahe is quite near to these vineyards).

BISCHEL

2020 EMT Riesling trocken (auction)

Technically, I guess, this wine has not been declared a GG. It comes from a parcel that was owned by a woman named Analiese Emt who sold this parcel and the rest of her Heerkretz to Daniel Wagner in 2012. It is the oldest parcel of Heerkretz in his possession. The vines are about 30 years old with a mix of clones. The vines have a virus that causes the grapes to be very small. About 2/3  of the grapes are destemmed, about 1/3 whole cluster. Eight barrels were made in 2020, of which four were selected for this wine. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and has 2 g/l residual sugar, 7 g/l acidity. The nose and mouth are spicy, the wine is medium-light in weight in the mouth and shows great finesse. It drinks well now and should last at least 15 years.  94/A

2020 (Siefersheim) Höllenberg Riesling GG

A bit rounder than Heerkretz, less nervosity, more breadth. Finesse, layering, length, mineral fruit. 93/A
