2020 (and a 2019 and a 2018) Nahe Grosses Gewächs Riesling Part I (Burgberg, Dautenpflänzer, Felseneck, Goldloch, Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg, Johannisberg, Pitterberg, Pittermännchen from Diel, Dönnhoff, Kruger-Rumpf, Salm, and Schäfer)

These wines are just the prelude to some of the other delights of the vintage in the Nahe.

Schlossgut DIEL

2019 (Dorsheim) Burgberg Riesling GG

Medium-full body, power to this wine, some creaminess to texture, apple and peach fruit. 93/A

2020 (Dorsheim) Goldloch Riesling GG

Pure, mineral nose. Medium-light, elegant, fresh, white peach fruit, and a little salinity. Very elegant. 93(+)/A

2020 (Dorsheim) Pittermännchen Riesling GG

Yellow and dark plum nose. Medium-weight mouth, dense, pure, powerful. 93/A

H. DÖNNHOFF

2020 (Roxheim) Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg

Floral nose. Fine and pure with a lovely acidity, good nervosity, precision, minerality. 94(+)/A

KRUGER-RUMPF

2020 (Münster-Sarmsheim) Dautenpflänzer Riesling GG

Clear, a little bit of spice, medium-weight, good penetration. 92(+)/A

2020 (Münster-Sarmsheim) Pitterberg Riesling GG

A touch softer than the Dautenpflänzer, but otherwise quite similar. 92/A

Prinz zu SALM

2019 (Wallhausen) Johannisberg Riesling GG (auction)

Floral nose. Round, a bit creamy, some power, good depth, apply fruit. 93/A

2018 (Wallhausen) Felseneck Riesling GG

Medium-weight, not the concentration of 2019 or 2020 that I’ve found at other estates. Not showing much — may be in a shut-down phase. ?

Joh. Bapt. SCHÄFER

2020 (Dorsheim) Burgberg Riesling GG

Light, elegant, smooth, some minerality. Understated. Not much structure here. 91/A-

2020 (Dorsheim) Goldloch Riesling GG

Nectarine and peach nose. Mouth is a little fuller than the Diel Goldloch but not as precise or structured. 90/B+

2020 (Dorsheim) Pittermännchen Riesling GG

Spicy, medium-weight, mineral, clear, some power and salinity. 92+A
