Here we have Kinipser, one of Germany’s top Pinot Noir producers; Rings, who’s still a new kid on the block but rapidly demonstrating that he deserves to be in the top tier; and Philipp Kuhn, who may be just a little bit behind those two but also produces excellent wines.

KNIPSER

2018 (Laumersheim) Kirschgarten Spätburgunder GG

Good breadth, medium-light, long, dark fruits, Burgundian (specifically, reminds me of Beaune), length. 92/A

2018 (Grosskarlbach) Im Grossen Garten Spätburgunder GG

More density and depth, dark fruits, perhaps not quite as mineral as the Mandelpfad, a bit more power and depth here. 92/A

2018 (Dirmstein) Mandelpfad Spätburgunder GG

Depth, density, purity, medium-weight, dark fruits, freshness, length. 92(+)/A

Philipp KUHN

2019 (Laumersheim) Steinbuckel Spätburgunder GG

Plenty of dark berry fruits, medium-light, but somewhat anonymous. 87/C

2019 (Laumersheim) Kirschgarten Spätburgunder GG

Imprecise nose. Medium-light, elegant, some freshness, dark berry fruit, good length in mouth. 91/A-

RINGS

2020 (Kallstadt) Saumagen Spätburgunder GG

Intense dark berry fruit nose. Medium-weight, concentrated, dense, pure, dark berries, long in mouth. 92/A

2020 (Leistadt) Felsenberg Spätburgunder GG
