2019 and 2018 Baden Grosses Gewächs Spätburgunder Part II (Eichberg, Henkberg, Kirchberg from Keller, Salwey, Stigler)

From the village of Oberrotweil, good, but not great, results.

Franz KELLER

I’ve found Keller’s wines to be excellent in recent vintages, but some of the 2019’s confounded me.

2019 (Oberrotweil) Eichberg Spätburgunder GG

Earthy/mud nose. Dense, concentrated in mouth, but flavors are muddy. Power. What’s going on here? Just needs time or not a success?  ?

2019 (Oberrotweil) Kirchberg Spätburgunder GG

Floral red currant nose. Medium-eight, firm, concentrated, tannic, red fruits. Fair amount of acidity. Needs 8-12 years. 90(+)/B+

SALWEY

2019 (Oberrottweil) Eichberg Spätburgunder GG

Slightly earthy (positive) dark fruits in medium-weight mouth, some power. Still not harmonious. 88/B

2019 (Oberrotweil) Henkberg Spätburgunder GG

Floral red fruit nose. Medium-weight, red fruits, a little hot. 87/B-

2019 (Oberrotweil) Kirchberg Spätburgunder GG

Good purity, a little hot on finish; red cherry and other red fruits. Medium-weight, smooth. 88/B

STIGLER

2018 (Oberrottweil) Eichberg Spätburgunder GG

Red fruits in nose and mouth, medium-weight, elegant, somewhat tannic. 89(+)/B
