2018 Rheingau Riesling GG Part IV (Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland, Berg Schlossberg, [Johannisberg] Hölle, Klaus, Rothenberg, Schloss Johannisberger, Seligmacher) -- Allendorf, Hessen, Künstler, Ress, Schloss Johannisberg, Wegeler

The end of the excellent 2018 Rheingau Riesling GG presentation.

Fritz ALLENDORF

I tasted many of the Rheingau wines at two different events, and almost inevitably, my notes were similar, with scores the same or a note apart. That was not the case for Allendorf’s Berg Roseneck, though, so I give my two impressions here:

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Roseneck Riesling GG
Moderate acidity and minerality, a bit hot. The wine has not come together, so far. 88/B-

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Roseneck Riesling GG
Slightest hint of tropical, but still fresh. Lovely texture that is round and approaching, but not actually, plush. A sensual wine; some saltiness on the finish. 92/A

Prinz von HESSEN

2018 (Johannisberg) Klaus Rieslng GG
Light in weight, some tea, light fruits, imprecise. Steely, medium-weight, slight suggestion of fleshiness, good energy.Lacking precision, not of special interest. 89B

Schloss JOHANNISBERG

2018 (Johannisberg) Schloss Johannisberger Riesling GG
Good acidity, intensity, penetration, clarity. Stony quartzite backbone, some white fruits. A very good expression of Johannisberg. Very good energy. 93/A

JOHANNISHOF

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Rottland Riesling GG
Minerailty, some orange zest, yellow fruit, round texture, some lightness on palate. 92/A

2018 (Johannishof) Hölle Riesling GG
Buttery pastry and orange marmalade nose. Good firmness, some orange zest, medium-weight, good energy. 93/A

August KESSELER

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Roseneck Riesling GG
Floral nose, some vanilla. Moderate acidity, some minerality. 91/A-

2018 (Lorchhausen) Seligmacher Riesling GG
Orange marmalade, minerality, round, smooth, cascades on tongue, good precision. A wine that invites reflection. 93/A

KÜNSTLER

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Rottland Riesling GG
Floral, mineral aromas. Good acidity, some minerality, mixture of white and yellow fruit. 92/A

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Schlossberg Riesling GG
Orange peel nose. Orange zest, a bit of creaminess, some yellow fruit. 92/A

Balthasar RESS

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Rottland Riesling GG
Floral nose. Round, ripe, a big wine, not much minerality here. Yellow fruit. 90/B+

Geheimrat J. WEGELER

2018 (Rüdesheim) Berg Schlossberg Riesling GG
Smooth, medium weight, some yellow fruits, no real tension, but still good. 92/A

2018 (Geisenheim) Rothenberg Riesling GG
Yellow fruit, some minerality, good freshness for vintage. Some juiciness but also some steeliness. Round, intense and balanced. 92+/A
