2017, 2018, 2019 White Loire Wines Part II: GANO/BOUCHER, GERMAIN, GRELIÈRE/BRANGER, HAUT BOURG, HUËT

LA GANO/Christophe et Brigitte BOUCHER

2018 Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine  Sur Lie
Light in weight, not showing a lot of intensity, depth, or character, this wine is easy to drink with light citric fruit, but it is also totally unremarkable. Composition cork closure. 12% stated alcohol. Lot L.18. 85/C

Thierry GERMAIN

2017 Saumur    L’Insolite  blanc
This is a high-acid, dry wine that is pleasant to drink for its lemon fruit and shy waxiness, but it doesn’t show the generosity of a riper vintage. 12.5% stated alcohol. Lot L1 17,  87/B

Manoir de la GRELIÈRE/R. BRANGER & Fils

2018 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie   Vieilles Vignes   Réserve
This is a lighter, more acidic version of the 2017 discussed above, coming from vines that are 50-100 years-old. There are herbal and sea salt aromas and lemony flavors. It is a perfect shellfish wine. 12% stated alcohol.  88/A-

Domaine du HAUT BOURG

2019 Muscadet de Grandlieu   Sur Lie
Iron aromas. Light, crisp, and saline in the mouth with a touch of lemon cream, and with nervy acidity. This is a very good and typical Muscadet. Lot L 19-1. 12% stated alcohol.  88/A-

Domaine HUËT

Due to vintage conditions, only four wines were made in 2019.

Certified organic an biodynamic.

2019 Vouvray  Le Haut-Lieu   sec
Medium-light and elegant with subtle notes of beeswax and flowers. No perception of sweetness here, but the wine does have some roundness and smoothness (3 g/l residual sugar, 5 g/l acidity), and there’s also a mouthwatering salinity and good tension. This is not a powerful wine, but one that is most agreeable. Cork closure. 13% stated alcohol. Lot 91HLS. 91/A

2019 Vouvray    Clos du Bourg    sec
This wine is somewhat bigger and rounder than the Haut-Lieu (3.3 g/l residual sugar, 5.2 g/l acidity). The wine has lemon verbana aromas and flavors and a marvelous salinity. Just a smashing wine, especially for food, and one that will age extremely well. Cork closure. 13.5% stated alcohol. Lot L19CBS. 93/A

2019 Vouvray   Le Mont  sec
Light, almost ethereal with subtle lime and beeswax aromas and flavors, some chalk in the background. Very elegant and silky, some richness of texture, too. 4.7 g/l residual sugar, 5.1 g/l acidity. Cork closure. 13.5% stated alcohol. Lot L19MTS. 92/A

2019 Vouvray   Le Mont  demi-sec
Understandably quite similar to the Le Mont sec in aromas and flavors, but with a little tropical fruit thrown in. A perfect balance of sweetness and acidity to make this wine silky and sweet with no perception of acidity. It just goes on and on and caresses the mouth. 16.4 g/l residual sugar, 4 g/l acidity. Cork closure. 13.5% stated alcohol. Lot L19MTD. 93/A
