Joseph DROUHIN (Beaune) 2018 Part II -- Red Wines from the Côte de Nuits Tasted from Barrel Samples

2018 Vosne-Romanée
Dark fruits, good density, light on palate, smooth, long, silky. Round tannins. From four climats, including premier cru Chaumes. (90-93)

2018 Chambolle-Musigny
Smooth, silky, dark fruits, light on palate. From three climats, all beneath the village. (90-92)

2018 Gevrey-Chambertin
Smooth, pure red and dark fruits, some wildness, medium-light on palate. From ten climats all around Gevrey, including premiers crus Les Veroilles, La Romanée, and Clos du Chapître.  (90-92)

2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges   1er Cru   Les Procès
Aromatic and floral nose. Smooth and creamy on palate, some spice to red cherry fruit, medium-light. (91-93)

2018 Gevrey-Chambertin   1er Cru
Minerality in nose. Good density, dark fruits, some wildness, good depth. From La Romanée, Les Veroilles, Craipillot, and Champonnet. (91-94)

2018 Chambolle-Musigny   1er Cru
Spicy dark fruits, smooth texture, medium-light, almost ethereal. From Les Plantes, Aux Combottes, Les Hauts-Doix, Les Borniques, Les Feusselottes, Aux Beaux Bruns, and Les Noirots. (91-93)

2018 Vosne-Romanée   1er Cru
Medium-light, smooth, dark and red fruits, light on tongue. From Les Chaumes, Aux Malconsorts, and Les Petits Monts (but not from the vines owned by Véronique Drouhin). (90-93)

2018 Vosne-Romanée   1er Cru   Petits Monts
Dense, pure, cassis fruit, intense, long, tight, tannic. 45-50% whole clusters, some vinification in barrel (vendange intégrale). (93-96)

2018 Charmes-Chambertin
Dark fruits, ripe, moderate acidity, slight Gaminess. From the Aux Charmes climat; changed supplier five years ago, previously the grapes came from Mazoyères. 25% whole clusters here. (92-94)

2018 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Dark fruits with a little spice and minerality in both nose and mouth. Ripeness to dark fruits. 30% whole clusters, some vinification in barrel (vendange intégrale). A mixture of estate grapes and purchased grapes. (92-94)

2018 Clos de Vougeot
Ripe red and dark fruits, some salinity and good density, but lacks freshness of the top wines from Clos de Vougeot. Wine from Drouhin’s holding at the bottom of the vineyard was sold off. (91-94)

2018 Chambolle-Musigny   1er Cru   Amoureuses
Some spices in nose. Dark fruits, smooth texture, very ripe, moderate acidity, lacks precision that it has in best years. 40% whole clusters.  (91-93)

2018 Bonnes-Mares
Alcohol on nose, dark fruits. Dark fruits, lacking freshness, medium-weight, elegant, light on tongue. Some vinification in barrel (vendange intégrale) here. Three barrels in 2018. (90-93)

2018 Musigny
Very ripe dark fruit aromas. In mouth, violets, dark fruits, some salinity, length, but very ripe. Six barrels in 2018 (four in 2019). (93-95)
